Calgary's Corporate Security Chief Plans to Hire Private Army

City Commissioners Ask for Calgarians to Speak Out

Recently, Concerned Christians Canada (CCC) was approached to expose the quiet plan of Owen Key to oust the current security team at City Hall, in favor of his own private bully squad. CCC was also asked to request that the media and Calgarians speak up for the over 200 existing veteran servants of City Hall, commonly referred to as Commissioners.

After many years of faithful service to the City of Calgary, Owen Key has invoked a loophole to force current commissioners out, in order that he may install his own private security force, to do his personal bidding. The current commissioners have a great deal of experience in peacefully managing City Hall corporate security issues, and have done their job well, but have been told that their years of faithful service are over. To put it mildly, this is a black mark on the record of City Hall. Many of the commissioners at the municipal building are elderly and approaching retirement. If Owen Key is successful in his ambitions, to rid himself of the principled security personnel, the team will be pushed out of their jobs very soon. As a matter of fact, unless something is done very quickly, the matter will be closed, as Mr. Key plans to have them gone as of April 1, 2011.

One might ask, why would the Corporate Security boss, get rid of the entire team of faithful hard working security commissioners? What could they all have done at the same time to warrant such a move. Well according to one commissioner, Mr. Key was asking them to be unprincipled in the execution of their jobs, requesting that they invoke unconstitutional bullying practices in the course of carrying out their jobs. When they en mass refused to carry out his malicious instructions, it is said that he found a way to get them out in order to build a “private army” of security forces that will carry out his bidding.

What makes this matter worse is that, according to the commissioner, he has spoken to City Alderman about the issue only to find out that they were not even made aware of this massive shift in personnel, their security boss was executing in their own building. The forceful removal of commissioners, through a decision not to renew their contract, was done behind closed doors and right under the City leaders' noses. We have been told by one commissioner that he really wants to keep his job, and is hopeful that Calgary citizens will step up and speak out for him and his colleagues. The situation is so tense at City Hall that this commissioner asked to remain anonymous, since he fears any publicity will make him loose his job right away, which he says he can't afford. The commissioner stated, “I have been a commissioner all my working career and I have never seen such behavior. What Owen Key is doing is completely wrong. We have been asked to continually spy on people, track people's activities and to maliciously badger people at his whim. That has never been my job and I will not start that kind of behavior. It's not right. Others have been asked to do the same and they have refused as well. I am proud to be a commissioner and I am not willing to compromise my principles in order to keep my job and that is what I was asked to do.”

CCC is calling for a public inquiry into the matter. With a new leadership team at City Hall, CCC is hopeful that action will be taken to clean up the corruption that lies within the halls and walls of it's municipal building.
