How do you treat those that abuse you?
Do you love even those who hate you and spitefully accuse you of all manner of evil? Do you forgive those who have wrongly accused you? Do you know that God has called you to? We have to remember that in the call of duty (sharing the gospel and winning souls), there will be many who misinterpret your best efforts to live faithfully in a way that honors Christ as evil or divisive. Just remember:
Luke 6:26-31 Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for their fathers used to treat the false prophets in the same way. 27 "But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either. 30 Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back. 31 Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.
Also remember, even if you are wrongly accused and abused, God knows the truth and will work all of your trials to good (Romans 8:28). May I remind you of another scripture that the Lord brought my attention to when I was going through trials early last year:
James 1:2-8 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, 8 being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
May God bless you as you seek to serve Him and present yourself a living sacrifice which is your reasonable service unto the Lord.
