Don't deceive yourselves
2 Thessalonians 3:13
But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary of doing good.
William Wilberforce, a great man of faith, misunderstood at many points during his walk, worked in government for 26 years to eventually bring about the emancipation of the blacks.
As we strive to enter via the narrow gate, let us remember to:
Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.
Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord.
Also, the Lord reminds us that sometimes we can get so goal focused that people can get trampled. Let us not trample one another, but rather love one another as we seek, both individually and as a community of brethren, to work out the will and purposes of God.
Let us remember:
1 Corinthians 13
1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.
Let us serve one another and bless one another, pray for one another and encourage one another in a spirit of meekness and let us remember:
So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.
If you are hot for Jesus but you are cold to mankind, are you not lukewarm? If you are hot for mankind but you are cold to Jesus, are you not lukewarm? Remember there are two laws Jesus stated, not one:
Jesus answered, "The foremost is, 'HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD; 30 AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.' 31 The second is this, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' There is no other commandment greater than these."
So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.
22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; 24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. 25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.
26 If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless. 27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
