The Once Saved Always Saved Heresy

  • Share

According to the Bible, when the Lord Jesus returns, our faith will be judged by our works. The lawless, the disobedient, the unfaithful, will look forward to eternal punishment, but the faithful, the honorable, the loving and the diligent in Christ will receive the promise of salvation and of Godly inheritence. The modern church has corrupted the gospel of grace into a license to sin. It has established as a doctrine of the church that the grace of God permits sin and that the one who continues in sin need not fear, since he is "eternally secure". As a stark contrast to this hellish doctrine, the Bible teaches that only those that remain in Christ until the end will be saved, only those who love God and prove it by following His commandments, only those who hold on to the faithful witness and forsake the world and their life will gain life eternal.

Over and over, scripture in both the old and new testaments teaches condemnation of the wicked, and salvation for the lovers of God who walk in holiness and righteousness in a state of ongoing repentance. Only the righteous in Christ will see God and will live with Him for all eternity.

For an in depth study of this topic, one could go to their Bibles and read diligently and pray that God would reveal the truth, but if you are looking for a specific study, where scriptures pertaining to salvation and "eternal security" are plainly explained and written out, not interpretted by men (in order to explain away the judgement of God), one could look to two very good books that clearly show that eternal security (once saved always saved doctrine) is merely a dangerous myth. Both books were writen by Dan Corner.

One is called The Believer's Conditional Security

and the other is called The Myth of Eternal Security.

If you are a lover of the truth rather than a lover of man's doctrine then I suggest you study this topic thoroughly. Once saved always saved doctrine has permeated the modern day church, has left it with an abundance of bad fruit at best and has others believing they are saved while they are still dead in their sins, giving them a false sense of security. If you look at our society and the statistical comparison of immorality in the church versus immorality in the world. The stats in the church hardly differ at all. The church should be starkly different, in a good way, from the world. But what we find is that dating, premarital sex, abortion, pornography addiction, extra-marital affairs, divorce, lying, cheating, drug abuse, spouse abuse, gluttony, etc abound in the church. Paul said let these not be named among you (ever), let alone be normal acceptable and expected behaviour for a follower of Jesus Christ to walk in.

"But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints" Ephesians 5:3

God has called us to be a holy nation and a royal priesthood. We are told to be holy even as our father in heaven is holy. We are told to be not conformed to this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our mind.

The scriptures below will get you started, but there are many, many scriptures which teach that God will not be mocked, but that the wicked will be judged, wereas the righteous found to be in Christ at His returned will be saved from the coming destruction and will not taste of the second death.

"6 The one who is taught the word is to share all good things with the one who teaches him. 7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary." Galatians 6:6-9

"10 Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. 11 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death." Revelation 2:10-11

To be clear, the word of God even tells us what the second death is:

"Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire." Revelation 20:14

"13 When I say to the righteous that he shall surely live, but he trusts in his own righteousness and commits iniquity, none of his righteous works shall be remembered; but because of the iniquity that he has committed, he shall die." Ezekiel 33:13

"But my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him." Hebrews 10:38

Jesus made it clear. If you remain in Him, you will be pruned, produce more fruit and obtain in Christ Jesus, through His reconciling work on the cross, life eternal. If however, we do not remain in Him, the Father will cut us off, we will wither and die and be gathered up and thrown into the fire.

Jesus Is the Vine--Followers Are Branches

"1 "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples. 9 Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. 11 These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full." John 15:1-11

"Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him."James 1:12

"Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you."1 Timothy 4:16

"1 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you--unless you believed in vain." 1 Corinthians 15:1-2

"19 My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins." James 5:19-20

Jesus warning to believers

"9 "Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name. 10 At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. 11 Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. 12 Because lawlessness is increased, most people's love will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved." Matthew 24:9-13

"14 "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; 15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

17 "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

20 "For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:14-19

For those who have been taught the heresy that the teachings of Christ are pre-cross and are therefor not applicable to the saints, because they are old covenant teachings, please be aware that God is the unchangeable God and scripture also teaches:

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." Hebrews 13:8

Jim Blake

All glory goes to the living God, maker of the heavens and the earth, for He alone is worthy of all glory and honor and praise. I consider the sufferings of this age not worthy to be compared to what is to come for those who place their faith in the King of kings and persevere in faith, day by day, until the end.

For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.

As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.

For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.

As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.

For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.

But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;

To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.

Psalm 103:11-18
